Bulldogs Stick with it to Earn a Win in Powell River

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs over came a shaky start and some topsy turvy play late to defeat the Powell River Kings 5-4 at Hap Parker Arena on Friday night.

The Bulldogs trailed 2-0 and gave the River Kings the games 1st 6 power play opportunities of the night before settling down and recording the victory.

It was a big night for the Bulldogs Kobe Assam who scored his 1st BCHL goal and was involved in a fight where he handled himself quite well. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Josh Zary who had a pair (9 & 10), Ethan Leyer (4) and Stephen Castagna (6) had the game winner.

Hobie Hedquist earned his 8th win in goal as he stopped 23 of 27 shots on the night.

The news wasn’t all good for the Bulldogs on Friday.  The Port Alberni Bombers offensive leader Brady McIsaac made his season debut on Friday and assisted on the Kobe Assam marker. Unfortunately he was taken down on a rush and crashed into the end boards suffering an upper body injury that will see him miss time.

The victory improved the Bulldogs recored to 11-6-3-0 on the year, good for 3rd overall in the Coastal Conference standings.

The Bulldogs and River Kings will do it all over tonight at 7:00 pm.
