The Alberni Valley Bulldogs dropped a 2-1 decision to the Powell River Kings at the Hap Parker Arena on Saturday night.
After scoring 5 goals on Friday night, the Bulldogs couldn’t seem to get much going on Saturday, despite pilling up 38 shots on Kings starter Matthias Smith. The secondary chances that existed a night ago were absent in this contest.
The power play, typically a strong point for the Bulldogs attack was just 1 for 6 on the night with the lone goal coming late in the 3rd with Hayden Dunford on the bench for an extra attacker. Josh Zary’s 11th of the year at 18:43 broke Smith’s shutout bid, and got the Bulldogs within a goal, however that would be it for the Bulldogs on the night. Josh Van Unen & Stephen Castagna assisted on the Zary marker.
Hayden Dunford made his Bulldogs debut in goal after being acquired from Caledonia on Thursday. Dunford was sharp as he stopped 23 of 25 shots on the night, including a penalty shot in the 2nd period.
The loss drops the Bulldogs record to 11-7-3-0 on year as they prepare to host the Coquitlam Express at the Dawg Pound on Saturday evening in the club’s annual Teddy Bear Toss.
