Bulldogs Win in Overtime

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs won their second in a row Saturday night with a come from behind 4-3 overtime win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals. The Dogs trailed 2-0 after one, but quickly made it a one goal game in the second period when David Dziurzynski scored his first BCHL goal before the period was thirty seconds old to trim the gap to 2-1. The Capitals would take a 3-1 lead into the room after forty minutes with their second power play goal of the game later in the period. Again the Dogs made it a one goal game early in the third with Mitch MacMillan tipping in a Frank Riddle point shot just short of three minutes in to make it 3-2. The comeback was complete with Zack Mazo finding a wide open Mark MacMillan in front with less than five minutes to play to tie the game at three-three.
Overtime #1 was down to the final 30 seconds when David Dziurzynski took a Mark MacMillan pass and walked out from the right side of the net to the slot and snapped one through the legs of Kiefer Smiley for the game winner and his second of the game. The Dogs outshot the Caps 39-27, with Frank Slubowski picking up the win in net. The Dogs were 0 for 8 on the power play; the Capitals were 2 for 4.
The Alberni Valley Bulldogs continue their six game home stand this weekend when the Langley Chiefs and Surrey Eagles visit the Dog Pound.
