Castagna’s Career Night Not Enough

Stephen Castagna’s career high 5 point game wasn’t enough for the Bulldogs as they dropped back and forth affair with the Victoria Grizzlies 7-5 on Sunday afternoon at the Multiplex.

Castagna scored 4 times on the game and added an assist late in the 3rd period.

Ellis Rickwood & Connor Eddy each scored twice in the win for the Grizzlies who are now a perfect 3-0-0 against the Bulldogs in the young pod season.  For Rickwood, the goals were his 6th & 7th against the Bulldogs this year.

Lukas Jirousek had the other goal on the night for the Bulldogs, his 5th of the season.

Luke Pearson 35 of 41 shots in goal for the Bulldogs, while Justin Easter stopped 35 of 40 shots the Bulldogs directed his way for the win.

The Bulldogs had a goal called back in controversial fashion late in the 3rd period as Chase Klassen fired the puck at Easter who managed to catch the puck with his glove in the net.  The ruling on the ice was a goal, however after a lengthy deliberation by all four officials it was reversed, robbing Klassen and the Bulldogs of a big goal late in the game.

After Jirousek got the Bulldogs within 6-5, Rickwood iced the game with an empty net goal with just seconds remaining.

The Bulldogs were 0 for 4 with the PP, while the Grizzlies were 2 for 6.

The Bulldogs are now 2-2-0-1 on the season while the Grizzlies improve to 4-2-0-0.
