Clippers Edge Bulldogs in OT

It was a back and forth contest that saw the Nanaimo Clippers earn the extra point in OT as Evan Mistry sprung Nick Sajevic for a breakaway winner just :50 seconds into the extra session to give the Clippers a 4-3 win on Friday night at Frank Crane Arena.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring when Will Elger snapped one past Aidan Campbell in the 1st period to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

The Clippers would tie the game up mid-way through the 2nd frame, before taking the lead with just 1.8 seconds left in the 2nd period. Clippers forward Grant Babcock walked out from the corner as the clock ticked down and was rewarded for simply putting the puck on goal as it some how eluded Callum Tung.

In the 3rd period, The Bulldogs got the equalizer mid-way through the final frame when Ethan Bono went upstairs on Campbell to make it 3-3. The Bulldogs took the lead when Nicholas Beneteau went coast to coast for a beauty with just 4:06 to play.  Unfortunately for the Bulldogs it wasn’t enough.

The Clippers took advantage of a tripping call to Matthew Maltais with a little over 2:00 minutes to play in regulation time. With Campbell on the bench for the extra attacker, Ethan Mistry’s point shot found it’s way through a maze of players and Callum Tung for the tying marker with just 1:15 to play.

Tung took the loss in goal as he stopped 23 of 27 shots on the night.

With the OT loss, the Bulldogs fall to 3-3-1-0 on the season. Next up, the Bulldogs travel to Powell River tomorrow to take on the Kings at 7:00 pm.
