Dogs drop road decision in Victoria

The Bulldogs were outshot and outgunned in a rare Thursday night contest, dropping a 5-2 decision to the Victoria Grizzlies at the Q Centre.

The Bulldogs took an early lead on goals from Keaton Mastrodonato and Ryan Novecosky,  but the Grizzlies took control soon after beginning with an Edward Yan breakaway goal later in the first period.

Victoria tied the game on a second period power play and went ahead when Alex Campbell was sprung in alone and scored on Alberni starter John Hawthorne.

The Bulldogs had some close calls as they sought to tie the game in the third, but Marty Westhaver provided an insurance tally and Cam Thompson salted the game away when he scored into an empty net.

Hawthorne was strong all night and made 52 saves on the evening, while Kurtis Chapman faced 28 shots and picked up the win.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday night when they host the Powell River Kings.
