Grizzlies Hold Off Bulldogs

The Victoria Grizzles held off a late comeback bid from the Bulldogs and held on for a 2-1 win on Friday afternoon at the Multiplex. The victory gives the Grizzlies sole possession of the Island Pod lead.  The Bulldogs have one game in hand which will be played Sunday against the Clippers.  The Bulldogs and Grizzlies will then face each other on Tuesday to conclude the season.

The Bulldogs thought they had the equalizer with 1:20 to play in regulation time and Luke Pearson on the bench for the extra attacker.  Brandon Buhr tipped home a point shot that trickled past Woodside.  After a consolation between officials the goal was waived off because it was deflected with a high stick.  Video would show the right call was made.

Josh Van Unen had the lone marker for the Bulldogs in the 1st period to open the scoring. Brandon Buhr and Stevie Castagna assisted.

After trailing 1-0, the Grizzlies roared back in the 2nd with 2 goals in exactly 4 minutes from Amousse & Eddy to take their 1st lead of the afternoon. That would be all the scoring on the day.

Luke Pearson was great in goal stopping 34 of 36 shots directed his way.

Both clubs were 0 for 1 with the man advantage.

THREE STARS:

***Carter Woodside – VIC – (21 saves)
**Luke Pearson – AVB – (34 saves)
*Connor Eddy – VIC (GWG)
