Hammer’s Weekly Preview

The Bulldogs have their most gruelling road trip of the season on the schedule this week, as they will play four games in five days in a tour through the Interior. Game one goes Wednesday in Trail against the Smoke Eaters. Thursday is a day off, before game two goes in Penticton Friday. Saturday the Dogs travel to Salmon Arm to meet the Silverbacks, before ending the trip Sunday afternoon in Vernon against the Vipers.

The Smoke Eaters enter this week with a record of 11-6-2 and 1. They were last in action Saturday night when they lost 5-2 to the Silverbacks in Salmon Arm.  The ?Backs would lead the game 1-0 just over a minute in, before they built the lead to 2-0 just short of the halfway mark of the opening frame. Just 18 seconds later the Smokies got on the board with Riley Loyst scoring to make it 2-1. With 4:20 left in the period the Smokies erased the deficit when Andrew Pickering scored to make it 2-2 after one. The Silverbacks would get the lead back and then build their cushion to two goals again when they scored twice in the second period to lead 4-2 into period three.  The ?Backs would add the only goal of the third for the 5-2 final.

Shots actually favoured Trail 32-26 as Paul Barclay took the loss in goal. Special teams were a non-factor with Trail going 0 for 7 on the power play while the Silverbacks were 0 for 2.

Wednesday?s pregame show from the Cominco Memorial Arena in Trail is on the air at 7:15 with the puck drop and all the play-by-play at 7:30pm. Catch all the action on 93.3 The Peak FM or the BCHL Fanzone

The Penticton Vees enter play this week with a record of 11-7-0-2. They won?t see action this week until they face the Dogs on Friday, as they are coming off a gruelling four game in five night road trip of their own to the Coast last week, where they went 1 and 3. They were last in action Sunday afternoon in Langley where they finished their road trip with a 4-3 loss to the Chiefs. The Vees got off to an outstanding start in this one, getting on the board before the game was even 30 seconds old with Travis Ouellette scoring. The Chiefs would then fire back in a big way, scoring three times before the period was out to take a 3-1 lead to the dressing room. Zack Josepher would score the only goal of the second, bringing the Vees within one going into the third. The Vees would come out in the third and tie it up quickly, with Garrett Milan making it 3-3 just over a minute in. The score stayed that way until the Chiefs would get the winner in heartbreaking fashion, scoring with under a minute to play in regulation for the 4-3 win.

Shots favoured the Vees 30-28 with newly acquired Jordan White taking the loss in goal. The Vees were 0 for 4 on the power play while the Chiefs were 1 for 4.

Friday?s pregame show from the brand new South Okanagan Events Centre kicks off at 6:45 with the puck dropping at 7:00. Get it all on 93.3 The Peak FM and the BCHL Fanzone

The road trip continues for the Dogs Saturday night when they visit the Sunwave Centre to face the Silverbacks. Salmon Arm enters play this week with a record of 15-5-1 and 1, good for top spot in the Interior Conference. The Silverbacks were unbeaten in regulation in October, with their only loss coming in overtime to the Penticton Vees. Heading into this week, the Silverbacks are unbeaten in 10 games.

Before they host the Dogs on Saturday, the ?Backs visit the Vipers in Vernon on Friday night.

Saturday?s pregame show from the Sunwave Centre starts at 7:15 with the play-by-play of all the action at 7:30. As always, get it on The Peak and the BCHL Fanzone

Sunday afternoon the Dogs trip comes to an end as they visit the Vernon Vipers at Wesbuild Centre for a matinee affair.

The Snakes enter this week with a record of 13-5-1 and 2, good for third in the Interior Conference.  The Vipers will have a relatively busy schedule before the Dogs arrive in town, as they host Salmon Arm Friday night before travelling to Merritt to visit the Centennials Saturday night before coming home to host the Dogs.

Sunday afternoon?s pregame show takes to the airwaves at 1:45 with the puck drop and all the play-by-play at 2:00pm. Get it on THE PEAK or the BCHL Fanzone.
