Martin and Bulldogs Agree to 5-Year Contract Extension

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs are thrilled to announce that head coach and general manager Joe Martin and the club have agreed to term on a 5-year contract extension that will see Martin remain behind the bench through 2027.

Martin joined the Bulldogs as the reigning BCHL Coach of the Year in 2019 after spending 8 years in Merritt.  In his 3 seasons with the Bulldogs, Martin has compiled a 71-47-12 record, good for a .592 winning percentage.

The Bulldogs are currently enjoying one of their best seasons in franchise history. With 2 games remaining in the season, this edition of the Bulldogs has already won the 3rd most games (34) in franchise history.

Martin has been instrumental in turning the program into a championship contender in the BCHL, and the organization is excited to have Martin locked up long-term.

“Joe has done an exceptional job in reviving the on-ice product for the Bulldogs.” said club president David Michaud. “Nothing is easy in this business, but in hiring Joe I knew we were bringing one of the best coaches in the BCHL to Port Alberni. This season has been fun, but we know there is a lot of work in front of us.  The goal is to make sure the Bulldogs are one of the top programs annually, not a one-hit wonder.  We’re aligned in our goals for the Bulldogs and I’m thrilled Joe will lead our program for years to come.”

For Martin, he’s looking forward to what is to come. “My family and I have really enjoyed being here the past 3 years and I’m excited to know this will be home for us for the foreseeable future. We have lots of momentum happening in the community and I’m looking forward to help bringing a championship to Port Alberni.” said Joe Martin on his new deal.

Martin and the Bulldogs hit the road for their final two regular season games this weekend in Coquitlam and Langley. The club still doesn’t know who they will face in the Coastal Conference Quarter-Final presented by The Dock +, however tickets for Game 1 & 2 are on sale now at the Bulldogs office. Game 1 is set for Friday April 1st, while game 2 goes on Saturday April 2nd.  There will be a pre-game tailgate party and BBQ before Game 2 in partnership with 5 Acre Co.
