Bulldogs drop second half of home and home with Grizzlies

COLWOOD- The Alberni Valley Bulldogs dropped lost 4-1 to the Victoria Grizzlies at the Q-Centre on Saturday night.

The Grizzlies would get an early jump on the Bulldogs with a goal just 1:27 into the opening period.

River Fahey would answer back for the Bulldogs at the 6:06 mark of the period with his first BCHL goal tying the game at 1-1.

The game would remain tied after the first, despite both teams combining for 30 shots on goal.

There would be no scoring in the second period as both Blake Wood (Grizzlies) and Luke Pearson stopped 12 shots a piece.

The Grizzlies offence came alive in the third scoring three straight goals including two on the power-play. Despite out shooting the Grizzlies, 16-14 the Bulldogs could not solve Wood. The Grizzlies would hold on for the 4-1 win.

With the loss the Bulldogs fall to 22-18-1-2 on the season and are 2 points behind Powell River in the Island Division standings but have three games in hand.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday at the Dawg Pound when they host the Division leading Cowichan Valley Capitals. Puck drop is set for 7 PM.

NOTE: Captain Mitch Deelstra played his 100th regular season game in the BCHL last night.
