Bulldogs Open Showcase with Win Over Warriors

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs defeated the West Kelowna Warriors 5-2 at the Chilliwack Coliseum on Saturday night to open their BCHL Showcase.

The Bulldogs had period leads of 2-0 and 5-0 before the Warriors got on the board with just under 9 minutes left in regulation time to spoil Hobie Hedquist’s shutout bid.

The 5-2 win snapped a 6 game losing streak against the Warriors.

The Bulldogs got goals from 5 different sources in the win.  Buttazzoni (2nd), Nicholson (1st), Leyer (1st), Buhr (5th) and Brown (5th) all scored. Stephen Castagna & Braden Blace both chipped in with a pair of assists.

The shots were 17-3 after the 1st and finished heavily in favour for the Bulldogs at 50-23.  The 50 shots were a season high.

Hobie Hedquist stopped 21 of 23 shots to earn his 2nd win of the year.

The win moved the Bulldogs early season record to 3-1-1-0 while the Warriors dropped to 4-2-0-0

The Bulldogs will face a 2nd Interior Conference opponent tomorrow to close out the Showcase as they get the day started with an 11:00 am matinee affair with the Vernon Vipers.
