The Alberni Valley Bulldogs defeated the West Kelowna Warriors 5-2 at the Chilliwack Coliseum on Saturday night to open their BCHL Showcase.
The Bulldogs had period leads of 2-0 and 5-0 before the Warriors got on the board with just under 9 minutes left in regulation time to spoil Hobie Hedquist’s shutout bid.
The 5-2 win snapped a 6 game losing streak against the Warriors.
The Bulldogs got goals from 5 different sources in the win. Buttazzoni (2nd), Nicholson (1st), Leyer (1st), Buhr (5th) and Brown (5th) all scored. Stephen Castagna & Braden Blace both chipped in with a pair of assists.
The shots were 17-3 after the 1st and finished heavily in favour for the Bulldogs at 50-23. The 50 shots were a season high.
Hobie Hedquist stopped 21 of 23 shots to earn his 2nd win of the year.
The win moved the Bulldogs early season record to 3-1-1-0 while the Warriors dropped to 4-2-0-0
The Bulldogs will face a 2nd Interior Conference opponent tomorrow to close out the Showcase as they get the day started with an 11:00 am matinee affair with the Vernon Vipers.
