Hammer’s Weekly Preview

The Bulldogs have three games on tap this week.

They have their shortest week of practice to prepare for game action as their week starts with a visit to the ?Big Stick? in Duncan on Wednesday night to take on the Cowichan Valley Capitals. Friday night the Dogs are back down to Bear Mountain Arena for their fourth meeting of the season already with the Victoria Grizzlies. Saturday night fans at the Pound will have their first chance to see the Cowichan Valley Capitals as they pay a visit to the Pound as the Dogs finish off three games in four days.

The Capitals enter this week with a record of 4 wins and 5 losses, good for third in the Island Division four points ahead of the Dogs. The Caps were last in action on Saturday night at home when they beat the Langley Chiefs by a score of 5 to 2. The Chiefs would get off to a great start in this one, going up 1-0 before the game was even 30 seconds old.  Mickey Spencer would pull the Caps back to even after one period with a power play marker just past the eight minute mark of the frame. The Caps would again strike on the power play early in the second with Matt Ridley finding the net for a 2-1 lead into period three. Yet another power play goal saw the Caps up 3-1 just over five minutes into the third when Mitch MacMillan found the net. Less than 30 seconds later Alex Gellert scored for a 4-1 Caps lead. The Chiefs would get one back to make it 4-2, but Chris Zaires would score the final goal with 5:11 remaining for the 5-2 final.

The Capitals were 3 for 8 on the power play while Langley was 0 for 6. Shots favoured Langley 28-27 with Chris Rawlings picking up the win in net.

This will be the second meeting of the teams this season, with the Caps taking game one back on September 19th by a score of 2-1. The Dogs would lead 1-0 after one in that game on a Warren Muir power play goal before Brett Corcoran scored early in the second for a 1-1 tie into period three. The only goal of the third came from Mitch MacMillan on the power play with 4:26 left in regulation for the 2-1 final.

Wednesday?s pregame show from the Island Savings Centre kicks off at 6:45 with the puck drop and all the play-by-play shortly after 7:00. Catch all the action on your radio on 93.3 The Peak FM or the BCHL Fanzone at www.bchl.bc.ca

Saturday the Bulldogs and Grizzlies meet again, for the second time this season at the Bear Mountain Arena. The last time the two teams met in Victoria was the Grizzlies home opener, a 4-3 overtime win for the home side. The Grizzlies enter this week with a record of 9 and 2, riding a six game winning streak.

The last time the Grizzlies will have played before they host the Dogs on Friday was Saturday at the Pound when they beat the Dogs 5-3. Read the RECAP of that game HERE

The Grizzlies have a 3 and 0 record against the Dogs this season, while the Dogs have a record of 0-2-0 and 1 against them with the overtime loss.

The Dogs have played the Grizzlies well the last two times out, losing 4-3 in OT and most recently 5-3 on Saturday night where a few precious minutes of the second turned the game around. If they hope to win their first of the season against the RBC Cup hosts and take two points out of Bear Mountain Arena, it will again take nothing less than a full 60 minute effort.

The pregame show takes to the air at 6:45pm and the puck drop and all the play-by-play is at 7:00. Catch all the action on 93.3 The Peak FM or our website at www.933thepeak.com  and of course through the BCHL Fanzone at www.bchl.bc.ca

Saturday wraps up the week with a return engagement of the ?Battle of the Valleys?, but for the first time this season it will be in the Alberni Valley at the Pound after two meetings already in Cowichan.

The Caps have a lighter schedule than the Dogs this week, as they won?t play after Wednesday night?s game until Saturday in the Pound. So the Dogs had best be ready for a team that will no doubt be coming into the Pound licking their chops knowing the Dogs are driving by them and back on Friday as they head to Victoria and return home.

The pregame show Saturday hits the airwaves at 6:45 with the play-by-play just after 7:00pm. Again catch it all on 93.3 The Peak FM or the BCHL Fanzone.
